How to Make a LaTeX Resume on Your Phone

By Laxmi SolutionsUpdated 2 min read

A LaTeX resume looks sharp, keeps a consistent layout and produces a PDF that applicant tracking systems can read. You don't need a laptop to make one: this guide builds a one-page resume on an Android phone, from a template or from a short source file you can paste in.

The quick way: start from a template

In Lemma, tap +, choose a template, and filter by Resume. The classic resume template is free, and Lemma Pro adds more resume and CV layouts plus a cover letter. Every template compiles on the first try. Replace the sample text with yours, compile, and share the PDF.

A one-page resume from scratch

If you prefer to understand every line, start a blank document and paste this. It uses only standard packages, so it compiles anywhere.

\documentclass[10pt]{article}
\usepackage[margin=1.8cm]{geometry}
\usepackage{enumitem}
\usepackage{titlesec}
\usepackage[hidelinks]{hyperref}

\hypersetup{pdftitle={Alex Rivera - Resume}, pdfauthor={Alex Rivera}}
\pagestyle{empty}
\setlength{\parindent}{0pt}
\setlist[itemize]{leftmargin=1.2em, itemsep=1pt, topsep=2pt}
\titleformat{\section}{\large\bfseries}{}{0pt}{}[\titlerule]
\titlespacing*{\section}{0pt}{10pt}{6pt}

\begin{document}

{\LARGE\bfseries Alex Rivera}\\[2pt]
Pune, India \textbullet{}
\href{mailto:alex@example.com}{alex@example.com} \textbullet{}
\href{https://github.com/example}{github.com/example}

\section{Experience}
\textbf{Software Engineer}, Example Corp \hfill 2023 -- present
\begin{itemize}
  \item Cut report generation time from 40\,s to 3\,s by caching queries.
  \item Moved 12 services to a shared CI pipeline.
\end{itemize}

\section{Education}
\textbf{B.Tech, Computer Science}, Example University \hfill 2019 -- 2023

\section{Skills}
Kotlin, Python, SQL, Git, \LaTeX

\end{document}

How the code works

  • geometry sets the margins. Narrower margins fit more on one page; 1.5 cm to 2 cm still looks balanced.
  • titlesec restyles each \section as a bold heading with a rule under it, and removes the numbers.
  • enumitem tightens the bullet lists, which a resume needs more than a paper does.
  • hyperref makes the email and links clickable, and \hypersetup writes your name into the PDF's properties.
  • \hfill pushes the dates to the right margin on the same line.

Change the font

Lemma compiles with XeLaTeX, so any installed font works through fontspec. Add a font file (.ttf or .otf) in Settings → Fonts, then add these lines to the preamble:

\usepackage{fontspec}
\setmainfont{Source Sans 3}

Use the font's family name, as shown in Settings → Fonts after you add it, not its file name.

Make it ATS-friendly

  • Keep one column. Multi-column layouts and text inside tables can be read out of order by applicant tracking systems.
  • Use standard section names: Experience, Education, Skills, Projects.
  • Write dates and job titles as plain text, not icons or images.
  • After compiling, select text in the PDF or search it; if you can select it, a parser can read it.

Keep versions for each application

Connect the project to a Git repository and commit before tailoring it to each role, so you can always return to the version you sent. Share the PDF straight from Lemma to email or a job site.
